Olympics Masks Pain of a People Twice

Millions died at the hands of the current regime – a regime in place for over 60 years. The inheritance of Mao continues with a crafy government pragmatically embracing proto-capitalism as a means of survival for its heavily taxed engine. The burden of maintaining social programs and controlling every aspect of a society is costly and grossly inefficient. In addition to this the regime squashes smaller countries outside its borders.

What is just as preoccupying is that Moscow, which only shed its wolf’s disguise in favor of a weakend bear that now lashes out… surprise, surprise – Oil propels the confidence of that country as they bring destruction to tiny Georgia in the name of keeping Abkhazians and Ossetians safe. Sheer lies, as we know that prominent Russians own large amounts of valuable real estate, especially in Abkhazia and the prospect of losing this before the Sochi Winter Olympics is untenable. They fear that by Russia losing her influence, their profits will be affected, and for this, why not kill thousands of innocents or if they are lucky, displace them from their homes? This is a war in its most base sense. Hard to believe it is 2009 – and it won’t change for 2014.

CITGO: Desperately Trying to Establish Some PR

In viewing some of Citgo’s ads in magazines, I was struck by the intentional use of cliches to make the company appear homegrown. They emphatically state that each station is a franchise owned and operated by independent owners.

They do not state that the Bolvarian Republic of Venezuela is the ultimate owner via Petroleos de Venezuela. The images on the ads depict your run of the mill mid-America citizens enjoying a picnic, playing baseball…. ugh… in other words – not likely you will see a picture of actual station owners mixed in there.

CITGO has partnered with Joe Kennedy for his Citizen’s Energy pet project. Joe seems to be uncapable of finding partners in the Arab world willing to help out some cold gringos in New England. He seems to have struck out in Mexico (that might support NAFTA??? Heaven Forfend!!!!), or with cool as a cucumber Putin and his string of personally owned companies… Only Hugo Chavez seems intent on helping out and you know what – that is cool – especially since he is not accountable to his people on how the resources are used, and what the hell, if Castro can get free oil and subsidized by-products from Venezuela, why not take him up on the offer as well?

I emailed Citizen’s Energy voicing my concerns on the use of oil from Venezuela. I received no response, however they posted a commercial using a very sick child from a poor family as a justification to accepting Venezuela’s oil. Somebody reading this will think I am vile. But let me break it down for you.

Let’s say you are the dirt poor kid that never gets a toy for Christmas and guy finds out that your dad is his sworn enemy (only because this guy decided that he really did not like him). He chances upon on you because a nosy opportunistic do gooder is trying to round up toys for poor kids. He contacts your dad’s enemy and yep… he is more than glad to give you some toys and what the heck, the rest of the kids in the town can have toys too! Sounds like a swell guy!!!! Well, cut back to this man’s home. Turns out that he had taken the toys from under their tree and simply re-gifted them to absolute strangers in another town just to piss off his enemy.

That is what Chavez is doing. People go hungry in Venezuela, so that he can get Bush’s goat. If he really wanted to piss Dubya off, he should have been successful with his socialist experiment… but alas, Chavez is nothing but a sham of a man, a thief, a despot and his goose is running out of golden eggs as I write. Lucky winter freezes are non-existent in Venezuela, or he would have a great deal more “’splaining to do
