“Mami, que sera lo que quiere el Negro?” was part of the lyrics of a popular song in the early 80s in Colombia. One wonders how the about face of Venezuelan Dictator Hugo Chavez has come about? He was coherent when he stated that he was happy that the part of the hostages had been released. Unlike his mentors the Cubans who chose to ignore the kilometerstone, Chavez had a “cadena” (National transmission on all radio and tv channels) to congratulate Colombian President Alvaro Uribe on this significant victory. He also reiterated an offer to help mediate the release of the remaining hostages. My view is that he betrayed the FARC or is playing games and may not be the most ideal choice at this moment to help out. His credibility in the terrorist groups eyes is tarnished with the calls for them to drop their guns and presumably the interruption of overt funding to the group on behalf of Venezuela.
So I do not trust Chavez until he is more coherent, consistent and honest with his intentions.
