No Gloucester Girls for My Sons

These inept teenagers have taken over the limelight in the past weeks as Hillary’s plight dissipated into a dark archive of political history. What has not been voiced clearly is WHERE ARE THE PARENTS? These minors have parents, why is there no commentary about this?

In listening to the newscasts on this issue I am shocked to hear all the fingerpointing without as much as a whisper in the direction of the people that are hosting these girls in their homes.  Decision making at such a young age is pretty foggy. Being a parent is a constant exercise and requires dialog. Hormone crazed teens need support and guidance. Peer pressure is no joke. Handing out condoms as a means of mitigating consequences hardly does any service to young children seeking more parenting. (When Condoms meet Patches, the movie!).

I for one want my sons to relate to women with respect, as men that know the responsibility of being a man and not to act like an animal. There are boundaries  – lets help them understand these boundaries so that we not lose them to the narishkeit and foolishness such as Gloucester is cloaked in.

Obama viewed as the American version of Chavez

This depiction is crude and really inadmissable. While both attack the rich while being  very rich I believe the parallel stops there. Senator Obama possesses a great deal more of education than the dictator from Venezuela. To draw comparisons is to really not have a grasp on the fact that we live in a constitutional democracy that safeguards us against the abuse that the Venezuelan usurper has engaged in. (*)  Owing to some recent comments I will clarify - Chavez was constitutionally elected as a President of the Republic of Venezuela for his first term. He proceeded to ANNUL Venezuela’s Constitution, create his own which allowed for him to extend his own term limit in addition to disbanding Venezuela’s Congress and Senate. He then created a National Assembly (Asamblea Nacional).  During subsequent elections, Chavez had his own appointees in charge of the Electoral Commission (Consejo Nacionals) in order to secure victory as well as record dissenting votes and politically persecute those employed by the government – PDVSA employees for example. Please refer to Soviet history to draw parallels. Not the purpose of this blog) – just use keyword “Lenin”.. I do believe that it is interesting to bring this up on behalf of the reader (who was polite!) – Since it does raise the specter of this happening in the United States. I sincerely doubt that we have the conditions for this. The Presidency is not allowed the ample powers it had in Venezuela, and the Armed Forces are not an adjunct of the Government as in Venezuela.

It is important to point out that we are abdicating our power to choose the government we wish by abstaining from voting in elections. Local, State or National, you are a citizen of this country and it important to express yourself, exercise the gift of citizenship and feel that you are a part of the United States. I may not agree with you in your beliefs, but I sure as hell want you in line election time.

Paternalism in Sight

Paternalism has been the disease that has wreaked havoc on generations of latin americans through out the continent in the past decades as governments took on big spending and created ambitious projects that were backed by the cash flow that oil exports were providing. In more stringent economies, taxation allowed for the remedy of budgetary shortfalls and soon enough the inflation spiral reared its ugly face as population grew and the programs with them.

The United States is beginning to confront serious issues with the devaluation of the dollar front and center. Dependence on oil can be blamed partially for this issue, the other reasons are more complex  – what worries me is the tendency of one camp to announce that they will look to bail out people. Bear in mind that investment in mass transit is a hallmark of many countries in Europe and the price of gas is still higher over there. The price of gas is merely coating on a deeper problem.

Accountability seems to be an exercise in futility here in the States. Expanding programs that hinder individual initiative and make them more dependent on the government dole is certainly not the answer. Yet that is the path that the Demogoguecrats feel necessary is to expand on the behemoth instead of seeking alternate paths that will help alleviate the issues at hand. I hardly sustain that a Ron Paul Revolution will be the answer. It is not – Libertarianism teaches some great fundamentals on how not to conduct government, however the forces of capitalism need to be checked once in a while.  It will be interesting to see how this election plays out. Obama playing the Caudillo of yesteryear, looking to revisit errors of ghosts past.

Off Shore Drilling Won’t Lower Prices – Sorry

The recent spike in prices is failing to bring our debate to a more key area: How do we improve Public Transportation? Is it time to embrace Hydrogen (yes)?

I think McCain needs to get off this bandwagon as it won’t guarantee price drops (Big Oil is not about dropping prices). All around the country people are suddenly embracing public transportation. Perhaps instead of a windfall tax a la Obama, we can work out a way to have Big Oil shoulder infrastructure improvement? Same pill, better flavor. Yum.

Merkel and Chavez’ Unfortunate Scam

Venezuela Dictator Hugo Chavez had the gall to call German Chancellor Angela Merkel a Nazi. Coming from a Holocaust denier like Chavez the insult is even more injurious. Gerhard Dilger in Die Tageszeitung had the gall to justify Chavez on the basis that he is a “leader desperately trying raise his people out of poverty”… What rock is Herr Dilger living under? Even The Guardian has distanced themselves from this third world ruffian. The current situation in Venezuela, even at $130.00 a barrel has hardly improved given the widespread Chavista corruption. Only the Venezuelan people are desperate – Chavez is rich and laughing all the way to the bank.  Perhaps the Left needs a new hero – Chavez hardly qualifies.

Second Offerings and Such

Well, it was a great Saturday morning brunch and all of us out on the patio at Wendl’s (except the wife and the baby) in Franconia NH were forty somethings. One of the guys sent a congratulations our way for Ilan… he announced that he and his wife were expecting, and then John my brother proudly announced that he too was a dad to be, to which a third bespectacled guy announced that he had a toddler at home… I retorted that we must have a population boost at least in the USA? I also told them it was my “second offering”, that I had a couple of older boys too from a previous marriage…He smiled and said it was the case with him…. here we were, four men older than 40 all with toddlers or expecting new babes… It was one of those moments that unites you with complete strangers, for a good reason. What a way to have breakfast!
